Tobi-Ishi is an outdoor dining table designed by Edward Barber and Jay Osgerby for B&B Italia in 2017. The outdoor version of Tobi-Ishi is made entirely of cement. Both designers are very fond of Japanese culture and art, which can be seen in the design, which is clearly Zen-inspired. Both the name and the concept behind the table have taken their inspiration from the round stones that are placed next to ornaments in Japanese Zen gardens, where the stones are precisely called tobi-ishi. Tobi-Ishi is as much sculpture as garden furniture with its overhanging table top and vertical trapezoidal base that seems to change shape depending on where the viewer is standing. If the products are placed outdoors and not used for a period of time, we suggest protecting them with their specially designed waterproof protective covers to prevent damage. The protective covers are sold separately.
