The BM Series – Material, Construction, and Form

The BM series is crafted from teak, a wood type often used in outdoor furniture thanks to its natural properties. Teak has a high density and contains natural oils that make the material resistant to moisture and temperature fluctuations, making it particularly suitable for outdoor use.

The surface of untreated teak changes over time. The wood transitions from a warm, golden-brown tone to a more silver-grey hue when exposed to sun and weather. This change is a natural part of the material's aging process and does not affect its durability.

The series features slatted surfaces, a characteristic found in Børge Mogensen's outdoor furniture designed during the 1970s. The construction was developed with a focus on functionality in outdoor environments, where the gaps between the slats allow for water drainage.

These models have since been re-introduced into production by Carl Hansen & Søn, based on Mogensen's original drawings and adapted for contemporary manufacturing.

Assortment and Variations

The BM series includes a wide selection of outdoor furniture, such as dining tables, chairs, garden benches, and side tables. The series also features sun loungers with accompanying cushions, as well as complementary furniture like footstools. The BM3670 dining table is designed with foldable underframes, allowing for more compact storage.

Several of the furniture pieces can be combined to form complete dining sets, including both chairs and benches. The variations make it possible to adapt the furnishing to different types of outdoor environments and needs.

The design is consistent throughout the entire series, with material, construction, and proportions recurring in the different pieces. This creates a cohesive whole regardless of how the furniture is combined.
