Eames RE Plastic Armchair DAR Basic Dark

The Eames RE Plastic Armchair DAR is a dining chair designed in 1950 by Charles and Ray Eames for the Vitra brand. The chair has a plastic seat mounted on a base of four chair legs made of steel. The pair of Eames multifunctional Plastic Chairs were first introduced at the "Low Cost Furniture Design" design competition held at the Museum of Modern Art in New York in 1950. Charles and Ray presented organically designed plastic chair seats that were combined with different bases, which gave these chairs a multitude of different functions and could thus serve different purposes. Today, the legendary Eames RE Plastic Chairs are manufactured by Vitra, which has revised the design and choice of materials for even higher seating comfort and quality. The DAR chair (Dining Height Armchair Rod Base) combines light and elegant shapes with a sturdy and graceful base that, due to its appearance, has come to be called the 'Eiffel Tower'. Since 2024, the shells of all Eames Plastic Chairs have been made of one hundred percent recycled plastic. The recycled plastic comes from the collection of plastic packaging from German households, in the “Yellow Bag” collection program, and is of premium quality. Using recycled raw material instead of petroleum-based primary plastic means that climate-damaging emissions are significantly reduced, as is primary energy consumption. The shell is of course recyclable at the end of its product life.
