Bok from Ethnicraft is a furniture series designed by Alain van Havre in 2013. The series comprises design furniture in solid wood, where form, construction, and material are treated as a cohesive whole. The furniture is developed with a focus on precision in proportions and a consistent expression across different categories.

Construction and Form

The series is based on a minimalist and Scandinavian design where each piece of furniture is built with clear wooden details and precise measurements. The construction is robust and solid, with visible joinery that forms part of the design language.

The lines are consistently straight, with soft transitions where different parts meet. This applies to both horizontal and vertical elements, where dimensioning and angles recur as fundamental principles. Each model is proportioned according to its function, with variations in size and format.

Material and Finish

The furniture is crafted from carefully selected wood types such as oak and teak. Finishes include waxed oak, lacquered oak, black lacquered oak, as well as dark stained oak and teak. Brown and wood-colored finishes also occur, as do brown lacquered teak and black stained teak.

The materials are natural with distinct grain and a warm tone. The surface treatments are developed to provide a durable surface while allowing the wood's structure to remain visible. In some models, wood is combined with leather, for example, seats in cognac leather, where the materials meet without disrupting the series' overall coherence.

Assortment

The Bok series includes dining tables, bar tables, and side tables, as well as desks and TV cabinets. The series also features chairs, bar stools, and stools, with accompanying cushions, as well as variants adapted for outdoor use.

Variations in form – round, rectangular, and oval – as well as functions such as extendable, insert leaf, and pull-out construction are present within the series. All parts adhere to the same overarching principles in construction and form.
