Silphium is a perfume from the brand Stora Skuggan. It has top notes of silphium and rockrose and heart notes of cinnamon, tobacco, black pepper, ginger, geranium and cloves. The perfume's base notes consist of incense, cedarwood, myrrh and leather. The product is vegan and handmade in Stockholm.
The inspiration for Silphium comes from the plant of the same name. It grew in Cyrene, today Lebanon, and was highly praised as a spice, medicine and perfume by Greek philosophers and Roman emperors. Despite countless attempts to cultivate the plant, no one succeeded, and it therefore became the most valuable spice in the entire world. The high demand ultimately meant that the plant was harvested to extinction and the scent was lost. By carefully researching the living plant genus Silphium, Stora Skuggan has attempted to reproduce the unique scent of this historical plant.
