The Eames Fiberglass Chair DSW is part of the iconic chair range designed in 1950 by Charles Ray Eames. The fiberglass seat is much appreciated for its charming and irregular surface. The seat is mounted on a base of four chair legs made of surface-treated maple. The Eames multifunctional chair was introduced for the first time in the Low Cost Furniture Design competition held at the Museum of Modern Art in New York in 1948. Charles Ray then presented a chair with a seat cast in metal to fit the shape of the body, which could be combined with different bases to give these seats a range of functions and serve different purposes. After introducing the chair, the couple had to find an alternative to the metal seat, which resulted in a seat made of fiberglass. Today, the legendary chairs are produced in both fiberglass and plastic by Vitra, which has revised the design and choice of materials for even greater seating comfort and quality.
