Kitchen Knives

A good knife can make a big difference when you're cooking. Different types of knives specially designed to meet your needs make cooking easier and give better results. Kitchen knives is a collective term for the different knives we use in our kitchens. They have different uses and differ in design as well as handling. If you take care of your knives, they are an investment that you can use for a long time in your kitchen. Quality and good knives are a must for anyone who enjoys spending time in the kitchen.

DIFFERENT TYPES OF KNIVES TO SUIT YOUR COOKING

The most common knives are the chef's knife and the santoku knife, which are usually made of stainless steel. Chef's knives are great to have in your cutlery boxes for both the experienced chef and the beginner. A chef's knife has a wide, tapered blade to make it easier to cut on a cutting board. This knife can be used for everything from meat to chopping vegetables. The paring knife is also versatile, but its smaller size can make it easier to use when peeling onions, for example. A santoku is a Japanese knife and often has a slightly shorter, thinner blade with a wider tip at the front. We offer top quality Japanese knives from the Japanese manufacturer Miyabi. A filleting knife in turn has a long blade that can be bent, making it excellent for filleting fish, for example. The bread knives that we pick up for breakfast in the morning are characterised by the serrated blade, which makes it easy to cut slices of soft bread. WHAT KNIVES DO YOU NEED?

Which knives to buy depends, of course, on which kitchen it will be used in and by whom. Different knives, such as a santoku knife and a Japanese knife, are suitable for different people and certain types of cooking. A knife set with a good chef's knife, bread knife, fillet knife, paring knife, santoku knife and carving knife is usually a good starting point.

HOW TO TAKE THE BEST CARE OF YOUR KNIVES

By taking care of them properly, you will keep them in good condition and ensure that they can be used for a very long time. One tip is to use a knife grinder or a knife sharpener with which you can sharpen the knife and get the edge as sharp as when it was first bought. A dull knife is both less effective and less safe. Also, some knives are not dishwasher safe as the detergent will corrode the edge and can cause the knives to rust. To take the best care of your knives, we recommend washing them by hand and wiping them with a cloth afterwards. A wooden knife block, for example, is also an attractive and practical way to store knives.
