Mario Bellini is an internationally recognised designer and architect from Italy, winner of several awards for his designs and Royal Honorary Designer of RDI since 1991. Bellini has won the Golden Compass Award eight times and no fewer than 25 of his products are represented in the permanent exhibition at MoMA in New York.
In 2015 he was honoured with a gold medal by the Triennale di Milano, which also held an exhibition dedicated to Mario Bellini's design in 2017. Throughout his career, he has designed intricate furniture, buildings and art installations around the world. Recently, he created a major Giotto installation at the Royal Palace in Milan.
Mario Bellini began his career as an architect in 1959 and began designing furniture in 1963. His early chairs were created for the major Italian furniture companies and , and some of the most popular were part of the lounge series and the chairs from 1979 are real favourites with us at the Nordic Gallery. The successor to - - was also a great success on the international market. One of Bellini's more recent products is the from 2017, where he used architectural structural design to create the unique metal base.
