Cassina

Cassina was founded in 1927 in Meda, Italy, by Cesare and Umberto Cassina. In the 1950s, the company introduced industrial furniture production in Italy, marking a shift from traditional craftsmanship to a new type of design-led manufacturing, where technology and architecture were fully integrated.

Cassina began early collaborations with architects and designers. In 1964, the company acquired the exclusive license to produce furniture by Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret, and Charlotte Perriand. This includes models like the LC1, LC2, LC3, and LC4, all of which are still produced by Cassina according to the original specifications.

Production takes place in Brianza, northern Italy, with a focus on sustainable materials and high precision in detail. Walnut, cherry wood, brushed metal, and vegetable-tanned leather are recurring materials.

Cassina’s furniture range includes seating, tables, storage, and accessories. Many models were designed in the first half of the 20th century and are still in active production today.

Historic designers

Under the name I Maestri, Cassina gathers licensed original furniture from several architects and designers, including Frank Lloyd Wright, Charles Rennie Mackintosh, Charlotte Perriand, and Gerrit Rietveld.

Rietveld’s Utrecht armchair has been produced by Cassina since 1988. The Red and Blue Chair, designed in 1918, was reissued through Cassina’s archival work. All models are crafted with respect for the original proportions and materials, as part of Cassina’s dual focus on historic reissues and contemporary design development.

Cassina 2025

Cassina 2025 outlines the brand’s philosophy for the contemporary home. The starting point is a holistic approach to interiors, where furniture, materials, and spatial solutions work together in harmony. The aim is to create architectural environments that are functional, sustainable, and visually coherent.

The philosophy is built on three core values: cutting edge, authenticity, and excellence. The products reflect a balance between advanced technology and traditional craftsmanship – a methodology that lies at the heart of Cassina’s work.

Form development takes place in close dialogue between designers, engineers, and the research platform Cassina LAB. The focus is on innovation, sustainability, and an enhanced experience of the built environment.

Cassina does not view furniture as standalone objects, but as parts of a larger architectural structure – where each component contributes to the whole.

Cassina at NOGA

NOGA has worked with Cassina since the 1960s. At the time, it was one of the few Swedish retailers of the brand, making Cassina’s furniture a rare presence in the Swedish design context of that era.

Models like the LC series by Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret, and Charlotte Perriand were introduced during a period defined by the Swedish welfare state aesthetic, and drew both attention and some criticism.

Today, our range includes established models like the Utrecht armchair by Gerrit Rietveld and the Maralunga by Vico Magistretti, as well as newer designs by Patricia Urquiola and Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec.
