Min chair

Min is a chair from Swedish brand Hem. Designed by British designer Max Lamb and made from solid pine with a light white pigment, it has a sculptural and pared-back construction. Repeated diagonal cuts shape the legs as well as the backrest and seat.

Lamb originally developed the design as a chair he built himself with the aim of using as little material and as few cuts as possible. Pine posts are cut diagonally to create the largest possible surface for the chair’s different parts. This construction principle gives the Min chair its distinctive architectural profile. The form was developed over several years and made in different materials and scales before being adapted for production by Hem. The pine’s pronounced grain and natural variations in tone give each chair an individual appearance. The wood is lightly white-pigmented and finished with a matte acrylic lacquer. This preserves its pale character while keeping the grain visible. The solid construction is designed for everyday use and reflects Max Lamb’s direct and material-led approach to furniture design.
