The Eames Fiberglass Armchair DAR is an armchair from the furniture manufacturer Vitra. The chair was designed by Charles and Ray Eames and launched in 1950 as part of the Eames Fiberglass Chairs, a series in which molded seat shells are combined with different bases for different uses.
The chair has a seat shell with armrests in fiberglass-reinforced polyester. The material's manufacturing process gives the surface visible fibers, variations in structure and color, and some transparency in some colors. The base consists of a four-legged steel structure with cross braces and is not stackable. The structure is also commonly referred to as the Eiffel Tower base and combines the seat shell with a base of welded metal wire.
The armchair is intended for sitting at a table and can be used in, for example, dining rooms or other environments where a chair with armrests is needed. For increased seating comfort, the Eames Fiberglass Armchair DAR can be supplemented with a molded foam seat cushion, which is screwed into the shell and can be replaced.
