The National Stool

The National Stool was designed by artist Ernst Billgren in 2025 for the exhibition New Memories at the National Museum. The stool is produced by the Swedish company Källemo.

It forms part of the overall experience of the exhibition and combines artistic expression with furniture design. Made of oak, with mosaic details and hand-painted landscape motifs, the stool bears a clear imprint of Billgren's visual world. The seat is upholstered in leather and the foot is made of brass.

The National Stool is issued in two different versions – Summer and Winter – with 49 copies each. Each copy is provided with a brass plate and numbering.

Each stool is adorned with two hand-painted original works by Billgren.
