Selandia – Skagerak & Fritz Hansen

The Selandia series from Skagerak, designed by Anders och Lars Hegelund , is now part of Fritz Hansen's collection. The series consists of garden furniture in solid teak and includes tables, chairs, armchairs, and sofas for outdoor use on balconies, terraces, and in gardens. The furniture is developed with a focus on sustainable construction, function, and flexibility in use.

Design and Materials

Selandia is characterized by a construction in untreated solid teak and distinctive curves in the backrests and armrests. The design combines stability with a construction adapted for regular use in outdoor environments.

Teak wood is a material with natural resistance to moisture, rot, and external influences. This makes the series suitable for outdoor use without requiring extensive maintenance. Untreated teak changes over time and develops a smooth, silver-grey patina. To preserve the wood's original color, the furniture can be treated with furniture oil, which also enhances the wood's structure.

The material's dense structure and natural oils contribute to high wear resistance and a long lifespan. This makes Selandia an option for those seeking sustainable furniture in natural materials.

Range and Function

The Selandia series includes tables in various sizes and designs, including round tables, oval tables, rectangular tables, and square tables. The series also contains chairs, wooden armchairs, lounge chairs, and garden benches, designed to be combined within the same series.

Several of the furniture pieces are foldable and thus space-saving, making them particularly suitable for balconies, smaller terraces, or areas where furniture needs to be moved or stored. The construction is designed to maintain stability even with repeated folding and unfolding.

Custom-made cushions are available for Selandia, adapted for each respective piece of furniture. The cushions have upholstery in weather-resistant materials that are water-repellent, quick-drying, and mold-resistant. Several options are OEKO-TEX® certified and colorfast, making them suitable for long-term outdoor use.

Background

Selandia is part of Skagerak's wood collection and is based on a combination of material knowledge and functional design. The series was developed with a focus on creating furniture adapted for outdoor use, in both smaller and larger environments.

After Fritz Hansen integrated Skagerak into its operations, Selandia became part of a broader range of wooden furniture. The series continues to be manufactured with a focus on material, construction, and long-term use, in line with the working methods of both brands.
