48 Chair is an armchair designed by Finn Juhl. The chair was presented at the Cabinet Makers’ Guild Exhibition in 1948. The chair is characterful and sculptural forms make it easily recognizable as a work of the world-renowned Danish designer. The chair embraces the seated person while the rounded surfaces are shaped to fit the resting body and its proportions. 48 Chair is made of two types of wood, which has become a key feature of Finn Juhl's design. The chair is available in an oak version with walnut armrests and legs and in a version made entirely of walnut. The organically shaped seat and backrest, upholstered in fabric or leather, are lifted from the frame in a somewhat ostentatious manner. Visually, this lifts the seated person and makes it look as if gravity has been removed.

Even today, it is easy to see how little Finn Juhl knew of his time. House of Finn Juhl has taken on the challenge of bringing 48 Chairs into the modern age while respecting the original heritage. Besides this chair, 48 Sofa-Bench was also launched in the same series in 2018.
