Small Tables

A side table is a functional and form-defining object in the interior. Its compact scale allows it to be used as a mobile element, designed to complement a seating area or function as a solitary accent. Nordiska Galleriet offers a selection of side tables and small tables that unite international design with materials of the highest precision.

Side tables and accent tables

A side table is rarely the room's main focus, but its placement is crucial for visual balance. It should provide a resting surface without dominating the room. Small tables are often used in pairs, placed symmetrically next to a sofa or as a delicate bedside table in the bedroom. This type of furniture shows how function and design can be integrated in a smaller format.

Our assortment displays side tables in various materials such as polished steel, solid wood, and glass. A glass side table or one with a thin metal frame provides visual lightness, while a small table in wood or marble adds weight and texture. Choose a side table that contrasts with the sofa's material to create a dynamic expression. This category of accent tables is selected for its ability to maintain a strong visual identity.

The expression of the material

The choice of material defines the side table's character and its interplay with the rest of the interior. Wood provides an organic warmth and a surface that ages with patina. Choose a wooden side table to create a base that balances shiny surfaces like metal or glass. Metal, in the form of brushed steel or chrome, gives a stricter, more industrial expression.

Glass is often used to create side tables with a visual lightness, where the table's form and design are highlighted without the room feeling cluttered. Nordiska Galleriet showcases products where materials like cast aluminium, polished chrome, or hand-worked wood convey a sense of lasting quality. These side tables are chosen for their ability to function as discreet, yet design-wise strong, accent tables. Among our products, you will find side tables available in several different colours and surface finishes.

Tray tables and their flexibility

Tray tables are a specific category of side tables designed for maximum flexibility. They often have a removable tray that makes it easy to transport items, making them suitable for social environments. This form shows how design can optimize everyday function.

Tray tables are available in various heights and materials. Choose a metal tray table for an industrial expression or a wooden one for a warmer feel. Many models also offer a foldable function, making them easy to store when not in use. Side tables in the form of tray tables work well in environments where a light and mobile surface is desired.

Side tables as sculptural objects

Beyond their primary function as a resting surface, side tables function as sculptural accents. Designers like Eero Saarinen and Isamu Noguchi have created small tables where the form itself is an artistic expression. Choose a side table with a distinct base or an asymmetrical top to create a focal point in the room.

Nordiska Galleriet showcases side tables tht demonstrate material precision. Products in cast aluminium, polished chrome, or hand-worked wood convey a sense of lasting quality. Choosing a side table with the correct height relative to the sofa's seat is crucial to achieving a balanced composition. These side tables should function as an extension of the sofa's design and not just as an accent table.

Dimensions and placement of side tables

The placement of a side table should always be related to the seating furniture it complements. The height should be in line with the sofa's armrest or slightly lower to provide a functional resting surface. A side table with a diameter of about 40–50 centimetres is often sufficient to accommodate the most essential items. Choose a side table with a clear form to create a contrast against the sofa's volume. Side tables can also be used as an alternative to a traditional coffee table in smaller living rooms.

Side tables come in many different designs, from models with a single leg to those with a more complex structure. Choose a shape that complements the room's other geometry. A round side table softens straight lines, while a square or rectangular side table adds structure. These small tables are an important detail to complete the interior and give a sense of considered design. Nordiska Galleriet offers side tables suitable for various environments and needs. Investing in a high-quality side table is investing in a piece of furniture that retains its value over time. Our side tables are selected to provide you with the best products in international design
