Akari BB3-55DD is a floor lamp handmade in shoji paper with a steel drum structure. The organically rounded fixture rests on a bamboo stem and a black cast iron base. The Akari BB3-55DD measures 185 cm in height. This globe-shaped floor lamp gives a three-dimensional effect in rooms, and fits well with other rounded models in the Akari range.
Akari is a range of luminaires designed by the JapaneseAmerican sculptor, architect, and designer Isamu Noguchi in 1951. Noguchi's work is artistically linked to abstract expressionism, and his design style was to have a major influence on 1950s design.
The Akari range of lights was created by Noguchi with inspiration drawn from traditional Japanese design. The range consists of more than 100 luminaires in total and includes floor, table, and ceiling lamps. All Noguchi light sculptures are made of shoji paper made from the bark of mulberry trees. The material provides a soft and evocative glow.
