Serax
Serax is a Belgian design brand founded by Serge and Axel Van Den Bossche, who also founded Valerie Objects. The brothers started Serax in a garage in 1986 and since then the small-scale business has grown into a multinational company headquartered in Antwerp. Today the company is headed by Axel, Axel's wife Marie Michielssen is the brand's in-house designer. Serax is a family business run with a passionate focus on creating unforgettable moments around the table. The Serax range includes everything from ceramics and tableware to unique designer furniture and décor. In 2014, Henry van de Velde of Serax received the prestigious Beligian Design Award.
A platform for designers
Serax collaborates with designers from all over the world, and its products adorn the tables of some of the world’s most renowned restaurants. In 1990, the brand began its first collaboration with designer Peter Arts. A year later, Serax gained international recognition through its collaboration with floral artist Daniel Ost, who created “The Flower Booth” for the French design fair Maison & Objet. Kelly Wearstler has also designed the Dune series for Serax, which includes both glassware and serving platters.
In 2009, the brand started working with ceramicist Roos van de Velde. The collaboration proved highly successful, and following the launch of her tableware collection, top restaurants around the world lined up to order her products. Today, Serax porcelain is used by numerous Michelin-starred restaurants to enhance both presentation and the overall dining experience.
One of the most prominent designers to collaborate with Serax is Ann Demeulemeester, known for her minimalist and poetic design style. Through her collaboration with the brand, she has translated her unique aesthetic from fashion into interior design.
