Periscopio is a floor lamp from Stilnovo, Italy, designed by Danilo & Corrado Aroldi in 1967. The design has its origins in the Space Age of the 1960s and is characterised by a simple, tubular construction with distinct industrial references. The flexible, rubber-covered joint is reminiscent of the connections on astronauts' suits while also serving as a central part of the lamp's construction. Periscopio is represented in MoMA's collection.
The tubular body is made of stainless steel and combined with flexible rubber joints and a metal base. The joint and the arm's rotation system allow the lamp to be adjusted in multiple directions and the light to be directed as needed. The floor lamp is available in red, white or black, with black details that accentuate the different parts of the construction. The Periscopio floor lamp features an LED light source that is partially covered by a silver-coloured surface. The construction helps reduce direct glare and provides a soft, diffused light. The combination of its adjustable form, slim profile and directional lighting makes Periscopio a functional floor lamp with a distinctive expression rooted in the industrial design of the 1960s.
