Primo is an armchair from Swedish brand Swedese designed by Yngve Ekström in 1980. With its high back and softly curved wooden frame alongside a woven seat the armchair has a pared-back appearance centred on material and construction. Its design language shares clear similarities with Ekström’s well-known Lamino but Primo has a character of its own through its open woven upholstery.

The frame is made of laminated moulded veneer and is available in oak or beech with different finishes. The seat and back have a woven construction offered in saddle webbing or strap leather. The airy design emphasises the wood’s curved lines and creates a balance between the stable frame and the flexible weave. The high-back model includes a fabric-covered neck cushion with leather straps that provides extra support and complements the armchair’s appearance.

Primo belongs to a furniture family that also includes an armchair with a lower back and a matching footstool. Together the models unite Yngve Ekström’s interest in the possibilities of wood with a thoughtful construction in which comfort and form work together.
