VLA61 Monarch Chair

VLA61 Monarch Chair is an armchair from the Danish brand Carl Hansen designed by Vilhelm Lauritzen. Lauritzen was a pioneer in Danish modernism with a strong focus on functionalism, where form and function always go hand in hand. This is evident in this chair, where double-curved armrests, an organically shaped frame and discreet brass feet interact in a well-thought-out whole. The chair is created to provide a comfortable, enveloping seating experience. The name VLA61 Monarch Chair is a tribute to Lauritzen's fascination with butterflies and refers to the stately monarch butterfly. In close collaboration with Vilhelm Lauritzen Architects, the chair has been recreated in a modern version with carefully crafted details and craftsmanship at every step. Each part is sanded by hand and the backrest is only stuffed once the entire chair has been assembled, giving a seamless and precise finish. The armchair highlights Lauritzen's sculptural design language and is part of his contribution to Danish furniture tradition.
