Kahlo - Masters of Art Book

This book introduces the Mexican artist through selected works and a biographical overview of her life. Despite a relatively small production, Kahlo has had a unique impact on both art history and contemporary visual culture. The book contains full-page reproductions of key paintings where color, texture, and symbolism are in focus. The biographical text follows Kahlo's life from her early years and the accident that changed her physical condition, to her relationships, political involvement, and periods in the United States. Author Eckhard Hollmann highlights recurring themes in her visual world – from pain and physicality to Mexican folklore, nature, and identity. The book shows how Kahlo's artistry was deeply personal and at the same time rooted in a larger cultural and political context. She remained uncompromising in her pursuit of depicting a life marked by resistance, but also by creation.
