The Art Collector's Table was designed by Finn Juhl for his and renowned cabinetmaker Niels Vodder's stand at the Cabinetmakers' Guild Exhibition in Copenhagen in 1948. Made from solid American black walnut, the table has a simple, graphic look at first glance, but contains a very special, hidden function. Closer inspection of the table reveals a wealth of detail. The split veneer table top unfolds thanks to brass hinges to reveal a glass-covered compartment - a treasure trove for a collector's most precious items. The unfolded tabletops serve as an additional storage area.

The production of the Art Collector's Table is a highly sophisticated process, where precision in every detail is absolutely crucial to the design. This was brought to a head at the 1948 exhibition when the table is not documented in any photograph, only in Finn Juhl's sketches and drawings of the stand. One explanation may be that the Art Collector's Table was never produced because it became too complicated and time-consuming for master carver Niels Vodder at the time. But now the magnificent table is finally in production thanks to the House of Finn Juhl who re-launched it in 2018.
