Socrates is a wine opener from the Italian brand Alessi. The model was designed by Jasper Morrison and went into production in 1998.
It is made of 18/10 stainless steel with a polished surface and is based on an interpretation of the archetypal shape of the corkscrew. The name humorously refers to the Socratic method and the philosopher Socrates' way of eliciting answers through questions, here transferred to the function of pulling the cork out of a bottle.
The corkscrew is intended for opening wine bottles and other bottles with corks.
