Thomas Sandell 1959
Thomas Sandell, born in 1959 in Jakobstad, Finland, is a Swedish architect and designer.
Sandell grew up in Skellefteå and became a reserve officer in the Amphibious Corps in 1981. After studying at the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm, he graduated with a degree in architecture in 1990 and went on to work at Jan Henriksson's Architectural Office, among other places. That same year, he founded his own company, Thomas Sandell Architectural Office. Five years later, he started the architecture and design company Sandellsandberg together with Ulf Sandberg and Joakim Uebel. In 2003, he co-founded Grow AB with Joakim Uebel, Ulf Sandberg, Jari Ullakko, and Andreas Rosenlew—an agency focused on brand development.
In addition to his architectural work, Thomas Sandell has also collaborated with the Finnish design brand Made by Choice, where his design language is expressed in furniture that combines function, quality, and a distinct Nordic aesthetic.
Today, Thomas Sandell is represented at the National Museum and has received several awards over the years, including Utmärkt Svensk Form (Excellent Swedish Design) on eleven occasions.
