Byarums Bruk

The Swedish design brand Byarums Bruk was founded in 1947 in Småland. The renowned brand manufactures garden furniture, planters and other outdoor products for the garden or patio, including classic wooden lounge sofas such as Ormbunkssoffan and the Jujol sofa in oiled mahogany, all based on traditional sand moulding methods.

The company proudly combines a mix of classic models and modern design in its product line. What makes Byarums Bruk unique is that they manufacture their products with designs spanning four centuries, all made directly in their own foundry in Byarum.

The casting process at Byarum is characterised by traditional, artisanal methods, especially the ancient technique of raw sand moulding. This method means that each mould is created from natural sand and water, without the use of chemical binders. The metal, which is melted, is then poured into the mould to create the finished piece. This process ensures that each moulded detail is unique. Interestingly, Byarums Bruk uses only recycled aluminium in its production, which is an energy-efficient and environmentally friendly choice.

A cultural heritage to manage

Byarums Bruk emphasises the importance of both innovation and sustainability in its work. The tradition of craftsmanship is still maintained, with the slow pace and skill required in the foundry contributing to the company's unique products. This philosophy has led to new perspectives and innovations, such as the introduction of aluminium in the 1940s and close collaboration with designers in the 1980s.

Today, more than 75 years later, Byarums Bruk is a proud representative of Swedish design and sustainability. The products are designed to last in the Nordic climate and when they have finally served their purpose, the materials are returned to the cycle, melted down and resurrected in new forms. Byarums Bruk continues to explore new collaborations, contexts and designs, with an eye to the future and a respect for its heritage and tradition.
