1920s Paris - Basic Art Series is an art book from the German publisher TASCHEN. The book presents Parisian art during the 1920s through works in painting, architecture, photography, film, design and fashion. During this decade, Paris becomes a hub for international modernism and artistic networks. Marcel Duchamp, Sonia Delaunay, Max Ernst, Pablo Picasso and Salvador Dalí work in close dialogue. Dadaism, surrealism and Art Deco meet literature, music and café culture. Photographers such as André Kertész and Brassaï document the city's nightlife, while writers such as James Joyce and Ernest Hemingway contribute to its cultural profile.
The volume collects over 30 works, including Un chien andalou by Dalí and Buñuel and Giacometti's Suspended Ball. Coco Chanel's role in 1920s fashion is depicted through the black case and her own perfume brand.
As part of TASCHEN's art history series, the book provides an overview of a creative decade in which Paris was shaped by movements, connections, and stylistic expressions that still influence art today.
