Gropius - Basic Art Series Architecture Book

This book introduces Walter Gropius (1883–1969) through 20 of his most significant buildings, from the Bauhaus school in Dessau to the Harvard Graduate Center in the United States.

Gropius was the founder of the Bauhaus and one of the leading exponents of the International Style. His work combines functional aesthetics with industrial materials and clear geometric forms. After leaving Germany in 1937, he continued to work as an architect, educator, and writer, with a strong influence on urban planning and residential architecture.

The book highlights how Gropius' ideas about light, structure, and social responsibility continue to guide contemporary architects and designers. The projects demonstrate a quest for rational yet expressive solutions, often in interaction with technological advances and social needs.

As part of TASCHEN's architecture monographs, the volume presents an architect whose thinking and buildings continue to shape our visual environment – a hundred years after the Bauhaus was founded.
