Human Presence - Francis Bacon Art Book

The book focuses on Francis Bacon's portraiture and collects works from the 1950s onwards. It is the first publication in over twenty years devoted exclusively to this theme. The portraits depict a psychologically charged presence and move between monumental triptychs and more intimate formats. The subjects include Lucian Freud, Isabel Rawsthorne, Peter Lacy, George Dyer and the artist himself in several self-portraits. Through the fragmented expression, Bacon examines the face as a bearer of emotion, memory and loss. The volume also contains illustrated biographies of people in Bacon's circle and shows how his work relates to art historical role models. The book is part of a wider collection of art books on 20th-century painting that highlights the figurative expression of the post-war period.
