Picasso in Fontainebleau Art Book

This art book is published by The Museum of Modern Art in New York. The book is published in conjunction with the first exhibition in over a century that reunites key works created by Pablo Picasso in the summer of 1921 in Fontainebleau. Over three intensive months, he produced two versions of Three Musicians and Three Women at the Fountain, along with an extensive body of sketches, etchings, pastels, and preliminary studies. The works move between Cubist structure and classical figuration, reflecting a conscious parallel use of contrasting expressions. The volume contains previously unpublished photographs and archival material that provide context for Picasso's working process. An introductory essay by curator Anne Umland introduces the central issues of the period, followed by fifteen shorter texts written by MoMA curators and conservators focusing on technique, form, and artistic method.
