The architecture book highlights one of the most influential but long-overlooked figures of American modernism. The book presents a selection of Schindler's key works through drawings, photography and analytical texts.
Born in Vienna and active in the United States from 1914, Schindler developed a distinctive architectural practice during his time in Los Angeles. Influenced by Cubism, the International Style and Frank Lloyd Wright's organic architecture, he formulated the concept of "space architecture" - a working method in which space is treated as its own formative medium, comparable to color or volume.
Among the most prominent projects are the Lovell Beach House, the Falk Apartment Building and the Schindler/Chace House - the residence where he lived and worked, together with the Neutra family. His work includes both private residences and smaller public buildings, often with concrete, wood and clear geometric lines as supporting elements.
The book contains floor plans, project descriptions and a map of Schindler's most important buildings.
