Finn Juhl originally designed the 46 Armchair with cabinetmaker Niels Vodder who presented it at the Cabinetmakers’ Guild Exhibition in 1946 in Copenhagen. In 1953 Finn Juhl changed the armchair and made it cleaner and more aerodynamic for furniture manufacturer Bovirke. It is this updated version of the iconic chair that House of Finn Juhl is releasing now. With the 46 Armchair, Finn Juhl has strived to emphasize the lightness of the chair by separating the caged and the standing elements, something that has become a bit of a signature of his design. Thanks to modern technology, House of Finn Juhl, which produces the chair today, has developed the version in a unique quality with stronger joints than the originals. Like the Chieftain Chair and the 45 Chair, the 46 Armchair is an outstanding example of the very best in modern Danish furniture design with its good design and extremely high quality.</The 46 Armchair is made of either oak or walnut and is upholstered with fabrics or leather in various finishes. The chair is also available without an armrest, which gives it a more minimalist look. You can find this version at Nordiska Galleriet.
