Kasthall is a textile company deeply rooted in Swedish industrial history. The company was established in Kinna in 1889 by designer Ludvig Anderson, at a time when electricity had just been introduced in Sweden. As the country’s first industrial carpet factory, the reputation of their durable and beautiful rugs spread quickly. Even today, over a hundred years later, Kasthall’s headquarters and factory remain in Kinna, where they continue to produce rugs of the highest quality.

Among Kasthall’s collections is Poetry, a series of handwoven rugs in wool and linen where variations in yarn, weaving technique and colour create a distinctive expression. The collection is characterised by asymmetrical patterns, shifting fields of colour and a distinct texture where materials and construction take centre stage.

The Vichy series also showcases Kasthall’s work with graphic expression and weaving techniques. The collection is based on the classic Vichy or gingham pattern and is woven in wool with a linen warp, where the checked motif creates a distinct structure and a balanced graphic expression.

Kasthall also works with the utmost respect for the environment, ensuring that all products are created with minimal impact. By controlling the entire production process—from yarn to finished rug—they ensure that their products meet the highest standards while caring for our planet. 

Gunilla Lagerheim Ullberg and Kasthall rugs 

For almost 30 years, Gunilla Lagerheim Ullberg, who has been called “The Queen of Rugs,” has been a key figure at Kasthall. Her work has set the standard for the company’s products, resulting in some of Kasthall’s most iconic rugs. Among other things, she has designed the Esther series for Kasthall.
