The system is constructed with regard to the detailed interplay between individual components. The modules can be arranged infinitely, where proportions and lines create a cohesive, almost graphic, wall image. The choice of material, the lacquered MDF, is carefully selected to provide a solid feel and a surface that resists the effects of time. Despite its adaptability, the system retains a distinct, almost ascetic, character that suits environments where function and form are equally valued.

Flexibility in placement and execution

A crucial aspect of the system is its versatility in placement. Although Montana's shelving system is designed to be both durable and aesthetically long-lasting, it is constructed to meet all needs, whether placed on the floor with legs, plinth, wheels, or mounted directly on the wall. This flexibility allows the system to function as a central part of a room's decor, or as a discreet complement.

For those who prefer pre-composed solutions, there is the Montana Selection collection, which showcases possible arrangements in various environments. In addition to the main system, the brand also offers smaller storage in the form of the Montana Mini series, with more compact dimensions and a more concentrated colour palette.

Colour as a design tool

The 42 colours in the palette, all developed and manufactured under one roof in Hårby, Denmark, are more than just hues. They are part of the design. Peter J. Lassen has actively worked with colour as a way to define surfaces, create depth, and influence spatiality. By combining modules in different colours, or choosing a monochrome arrangement, the system can completely change the character of an environment. The colours are carefully balanced to harmonise with each other, allowing the user to display their own interpretation of the system without compromising its visual integrity.

Acclaimed design collaborations

Montana's design language is rooted in Scandinavian tradition but has always stretched beyond the conventional. This is demonstrated not least through collaborations with influential designers. A significant example is the collaboration with Verner Panton, one of the 20th century's most vibrant designers. The brand produces, among other things, Panton Wire, an airy metal shelving system. These objects, strictly defined by their construction, function as sculptural elements in the interior and demonstrate Montana's ability to integrate functional design with an expressive visual language.

As a complement to the more closed modular systems, the brand offers Montana Free, designed by Jakob Wagner. The open steel structure can be placed freely and adjusted as needed. The system is available in several sizes and functions both as a bookcase and a room divider, with the possibility of adding textile panels for variation. Wagner's expression is evident in the simple, flexible construction.
