Flexform has been family-run since the early 1900s, making sofas and furniture on a small scale. The Flexform we know today took off when the Galimberti brothers established the “Flexform di Galimberti” workshop in Brianza, northern Italy, in 1959. After barely a year, the workshop was converted into a factory, and the name shortened to simply Flexform.
Collaboration with the young architect Antonio Citterio began during the 1970s - a crucial, enormously fruitful collaboration for the company for over forty years. Flexform has partnered successfully with several designers and architects.
Among these are well-known names such as Asnago and Vender, Cini Boeri, Antonio Citterio and Rodolfo Bonetto. Joe Colombo is also one of many famous designers to have collaborated with Flexform. He created the Tube lounge chair in 1969, which is now in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
The Flexform MOOD collection was launched in 2001 and is coordinated by American designer John Hutton. The MOOD collection represents Flexform’s high quality and elegance, but with careful attention to detail, fabrics and colors to suit everywhere from hotel lobbies to penthouses around the world - where you will find the designer furniture today. John Hutton was active until 2005, when he was succeeded by Carlo Colombo, and then Roberto Lazzeroni who to this day is in charge of all art direction.
As previously mentioned, from the 1970s, Antonio Citterio has guided Flexform to make the brand what it is today. With a distinctly modern innovative spirit, Citterio has designed countless sofas, chairs, tables, and other designer furniture that are modern classics. Flexform has continued its production in Meda, Italy, to preserve the history of the company. Today, the aim is to continue creating elegant, timeless, and durable products of the highest quality in a contemporary spirit.
