Andreas Martin-Löf + Johan Fowelin // Books and photography

Architecture and photography have an almost 200-year love affair. The ability to transform site-specific, three-dimensional buildings into two-dimensional images, as light as the paper they are printed on, has given photography a unique role in making architecture accessible around the world.

Johan Fowelin's Time Capsule (2018) consists of a series of photographs from Kungsholmstorg 1, taken before Andreas Martin-Löf began the extensive restoration of what later became his home. What could have been a nostalgic 'before' in a 'before and after' reportage is anything but. The photographs capture the viewer with a magical realism. Frozen moments that allow the viewer to fill the now-empty rooms with their own images of the life that once was.

One to One is the first book about Andreas Martin-Löf Architects, published in 2019 by Art and Theory Publishing. The book highlights 20 of the office's projects - from large buildings and interiors to furniture and design objects, including the aforementioned Kungsholmstorg 1. The monograph is generously illustrated and includes a series of essays highlighting Andreas Martin-Löf's practice.

The images in the exhibition at Nordiska Galleriet have not been shown before. Both books and photographs are available for sale.

Vernissage 16 September 2020, 17-19 at Nybrogatan 11.

The exhibition runs 17 September - 30 October 2020.

De mjuka formernas revolution

The revolution of soft forms

It's as if a revolution has rolled in and taken over our homes. The same movement has also hit public spaces and not least our Instagram feeds. The revolution comes in soft shapes, with curved contours and it is as if all straight lines and sharp corners have been eliminated in favour of the opposite. The shapes are accompanied by materials that feel as inviting as a soft and warm fur on a chilly winter day or a knitted mohair sweater against bare skin.
