Luigi's leather

In Baxter's world there is a lot of leather, not all of it, but so much so that even beds, room dividers and wardrobes are covered in high quality leather. Items you might not initially associate with leather. Baxter is a young story with a brand that only came into existence in 1990, but it leans confidently on a much longer period of entrepreneurship.

It is also a family story with Luigi and his nephew Paolo in the main roles and where everything starts with the love of materials, design and quality in general and leather in particular. Baxter is 100% Italian and as many per cent passion.

In an interview with Italian Elle Decor, Paolo Bestetti said that 2002 was an important year for the brand, when Baxter started collaborating with Paola Navone. With her powerful and stylish expression and design, they moved from a more classic style into the world of design. It took three years of hard work to transform the brand into a completely design-focused brand, but it was also the way into a new market and a new customer group where the interest in design is more important than the actual furniture. The brand is recognised again and again from renowned sources and for objects in different categories.

Lagos Table & Cairo Table

"A natural material like leather does not deteriorate over the years. It gains patina and character"

"A natural material like leather does not deteriorate over the years. It acquires a patina and a character," Paolo has said in an interview, and this fascination with the properties of the material has always been at the heart of the brand. He speaks fondly of the character of leather, how much it can change depending on its surface, texture and colour, and also depending on what other materials are added.

When asked in an interview about personal favourites from the collections, Paolo mentions three sofas that are not only well-designed objects but have also been important milestones in the brand's evolution from furniture manufacturer to internationally recognised design house. One of these is the Alfred sofa by Marco Milisich, which was the first piece of furniture to have a sense of patina and a touch of vintage. Of course, he also mentions Paola Navone's Budapest. An important piece of furniture because it became a clear marker of the new direction from classic furniture producer to design brand.

Chester Moon Sofa

Other favourites include the Chester Moon, a real statement sofa in soft quilted leather and a dream for any room. Designed by Paola Navone in 2009 as a bit of an experiment and a gamble, it quickly proved to be a real success and is already considered one of Baxter's icons. The series also includes a pouf and an armchair in the same bold design.

But Baxter is much more than just sofas and leather. There are great pieces like the Cairo Table with its pewter-plated brass surface and the Lagos Table with its cylindrical brass or iron legs. Lamps like the Q3 Hanging Lamp are as much a work of art as a light source and the same goes for the Lais ceiling lamp.

De mjuka formernas revolution

The revolution of soft forms

It's as if a revolution has rolled in and taken over our homes. The same movement has also hit public spaces and not least our Instagram feeds. The revolution comes in soft shapes, with curved contours and it is as if all straight lines and sharp corners have been eliminated in favour of the opposite. The shapes are accompanied by materials that feel as inviting as a soft and warm fur on a chilly winter day or a knitted mohair sweater against bare skin.
