The colourful Montana storage icon

A pioneer in Scandinavian furniture design emerges, distinguished not only by its clean lines and intelligent functionality, but also by a playful and accurate color palette. So much so that they have transformed our view of how prominent storage can be in our homes.

Design with character

Since 1982, family-owned Montana Furniture has been a trusted provider of personalized storage solutions. Created by founder Peter J. Lassen, the unique and modular Montana system has evolved into a timeless classic, known for its distinctive drawer shapes and vibrant color schemes.

Lassen's design philosophy still permeates every creation, emphasizing his motto: that each individual carries an inherent desire for freedom and a natural drive to create their own personal spaces. With this in mind, for more than forty years Montana Furniture has been creating not only furniture classics but also a platform for individual creativity and self-expression.

Just as a sculptor starts with an abstract stone, I started with an abstract square box. I removed all unnecessary parts of the box so that it ended up with rounded edges, missing corners and indented fronts - the DNA of Montana's design.

The 36 available sections offer endless possibilities for combinations, and to further enhance versatility, they are available in a whopping 42 appealing colors. With this variety of sectional choices and color options, Montana Furniture offers a unique and tailored experience for each individual to express their personal style and create a piece of furniture that is completely tailored to their needs.

Famous designers

Besides Peter J. Lassen and Joakim Lassen's own designs, Montana Furniture also produces tables, chairs and other furniture designed by Arne Jacobsen, Verner Panton, Schmidt Hammer Lassen and Jakob Wagner. Lassen personally worked with the famous designers and his connection to them is evident in the clean lines of his designs.

Peter J. Lassen passed away in 2019 and the company is today run by Peter's son Joakim Lassen, who is the fifth generation of his family to work with furniture and the great-grandson of the manufacturer Fritz Hansen.

Danish design - made in Denmark

All furniture from Montana Furniture goes through an extensive design, development and manufacturing process, which takes place exclusively in Denmark.

At the heart of this process is a small town on the island of Fyn, where over 140 skilled professionals work. Their commitment extends to machining, painting and assembly, and their goal is clear: to maintain the very highest standards in every aspect of Montana furniture creation.

Expressive with color

Scandinavian aesthetics are often celebrated for their approach to design by stripping away the decorative, but for Montana Furniture, color is everything.

Colors affect how we feel. They give atmosphere and personality to a room and can say something about who lives there, whether they are bright and light or saturated and deep, go tone-on-tone or play with a contrasting effect.

We use color to create emotions and, according to research, our perception of color is intimately linked to our ability to learn new things and increase motivation, for example. This is because human color perception is located in the limbic system, which is the part of the brain that deals with emotional reactions and subconscious thoughts. In short, decorating with color can increase well-being.

Montana Furniture loves color. In 2022, they commissioned French artist Camille Walala to cover the facade of their factory with a giant mural. The result was a Memphis-inspired piece that transformed the factory into a colorful statement as playful and expressive as the furniture produced inside the factory.

Colors by awarded color expert

Montana Furniture's rich palette is created in close collaboration with award-winning Danish designer and color expert Margrethe Odgaard. She sees color as a holistic experience, where sensory impressions play a central role. She is convinced that products that are intentionally designed to nourish both body and mind have a positive impact on those who view them.

De mjuka formernas revolution

The revolution of soft forms

It's as if a revolution has rolled in and taken over our homes. The same movement has also hit public spaces and not least our Instagram feeds. The revolution comes in soft shapes, with curved contours and it is as if all straight lines and sharp corners have been eliminated in favour of the opposite. The shapes are accompanied by materials that feel as inviting as a soft and warm fur on a chilly winter day or a knitted mohair sweater against bare skin.
