The Aluminum Group chair from Vitra is one of the most significant pieces of design furniture from the 20th century. It was created back in 1958 by Charles and Ray Eames on behalf of an art collector in Columbus, Indiana, to be placed in their private residence. For this chair, the Eames couple departed from their previous shell chair designs and instead stretched a piece of fabric or leather between two aluminum profiles to create an elastic seat. This construction provides outstanding comfort even without padding.
Aluminum Group is available in various designs and can be covered in leather, fabric (such as Hopsak) or a type of fabric (Netweave).
