Akari 55D is a pendant lamp by Vitra designed by the Japanese–American artist and architect Isamu Noguchi in 1951. The lamp is crafted from shoji paper, paper made from the bark of mulberry trees, and is hung with a structure of steel.The Akari 55D is part of the Akari lamp range, a range of lamps designed by Noguchi and handmade by Japanese craftsmen. Noguchi's work is artistically linked to abstract expressionism and his design style came to have a great influence on 1950s design.All the light sculptures in the Akari range are marked with a logo representing the sun and moon, reinforcing the authenticity of each product.
