Arne Jacobsen designed the 3130 Grand Prix chair for Fritz Hansen in 1957 and launched that year at the Danish Museum of Art & Design in Copenhagen during the Designers Spring Exhibition. Later that year, the chair was shown at the Triennale in Milan, where it won the Grand Prix for the show's most distinguished work. Since then, the chair has gone by the same name. The 3130 Grand Prix comes with a lacquered beech veneer seat and has dainty legs in a choice of colors. The chair is also lightweight and stackable. The shell is available in a variety of woods and colors to choose from. If you would like to order a combination of seat and leg colors that we do not offer here, please contact our customer service team for assistance.
Like Arne Jacobsen's Ant and Series 7, Grand Prix is also made of compression molded veneer. Each chair's shell is created in one piece, consisting of nine layers of veneer and two layers of Indian cotton that have been molded into their correct shape over steam. This gives the chair a comfortable flexibility. The chair is available in a variety of designs, with or without upholstery, and with steel or wooden legs.
